Thankfully the ceremony is broken up by shooters and Oliver is captured. It's meant to be this big, emotional tribute to Laurel and the Black Canary, but it's just laughably bad. I'm not sure we're at Season 1 levels of combat quality, but we're much closer than we've been in a while.įirst off, the damn statue of Laurel Lance. Now it's not just all these people flailing around looking ridiculous. When there's five or six heroes the action gets too chaotic and watered down. I like Oliver flying solo, to be honest, or with just one partner. I'm interested in the Russia storyline, and how Oliver becomes a member of the Russian mafia.įinally, all the action scenes were good, a nice step up from last season. Oliver is rescued by Anatoly Knyazev when he arrives in Russia, and they tie that moment in really well with Oliver's escape from Church later on in the episode. At the end of the episode, a dark archer shows up, and he's pretty damn scary.Įven the flashbacks in this episode are good. Oh, and he's not the only villain we see. Please don't let that be the plot this season.įor now, Church's goal is simply to take down the Green Arrow. I just hope his plan isn't to destroy Star City in order to save it or something. Church is brutal and mean and Coleman plays him with a rough, gravelly voice and wild eyes. Corrupt cops kills some criminals to take their loot, but then Church shows up and spoils their plans. Coleman of The Walking Dead and The Expanse fame, was great. Meanwhile, the introduction of Tobias Church, played by Chad L. It's also nice to see Curtis Holt join Team Arrow officially. So naturally, Oliver puts an arrow in his leg. I also liked that we got a brief glimpse at Wild Dog, a new up-and-coming vigilante with a hockey mask who just wants to help. One way or another, I like the Green Arrow as a more violent version of Batman.
